Esme – Nic West. Esme was born into the care of Hope Rescue, Wales, when her mother was abandoned at the vets, in need of an emergency c-section. She was raised in a lovely foster home before coming to me at 9 weeks old. My 15 yesr old staffy (also from Hope Rescue) died a few months before I got Esme so her arrival brought so much joy. As a disabled person it has definitely been challenging raising a staffy puppy but she is such a lovely natured dog that she really is, to me, the best rescue. Barney – Alice Prout. Barney was rescued from the Lab Rescue when he was only 11 weeks old. His previous owners had bought him as a puppy just a couple of weeks before, but didn’t appreciate the work that went into having a puppy, so he was surrendered to the rescue. As he was so young, Lab Rescue knew kennels wouldn’t be the right place for him, so we adopted him the same day he arrived and he’s been so loved ever since.Kimi – Alice Prout. Kimi was brought to England by Dogs Trust after she was found as a stray in Ireland. Lots of people went to visit Kimi when she was in kennels due to her fluffy, teddy bear like appearance, but were put off by the traits associated with akitas. After being adopted by us, she flourished and became a wonderful family pet. We sadly lost her in July 2021 very suddenly, and she is missed very dearly.Gracie – Elly Stayte. I rescued Gracie 8 years ago from the charity, the Forever Hounds Trust. She was found by a member of the public strung up in a tree by her back legs and she still has the scars on her legs today 🙁 We met in the charity’s tent at Paws in the Park and on the day I had my heart set on rescuing a big, black, greyhound, boy. I didn’t want a lurcher, or a white dog or a girl, but the moment we met it was love at first sight(hound). Four days later she came home and has lived her best life as Queen G ever since. ❤️ Ozzy – L Shurben-Browne. Ozzy was found at approx 4 months living rough. He had to be caught in a net. He then stayed at the rescue kennels for 6 months until I saw his lovely face . He hadn’t been in a house or car and is still a work in progress 3 years later – we’ll get there eventually …. he is gorgeous and loves the ladies – not so sure about men-or bicycles or hats ….. ! Wouldn’t swap him though xBear – Sara Sandbach. Bear 3 year old yorkie/shitzu cross who was bought off Gumtree and then taken to vets to be put down 2 days later before he was rescued by Starfish and fostered by the wonderful Abby before he came to live with us in his forever home with big sister Poppy. He is the sweetest dog ever who loves everyone and everything and thinks life is just one big adventure.Cookie – Izabella Motyl. Cookie is a Spanish Greyhound bred in Spain to race, has been shipped to Ireland as a puppy to start the greyhound racing career but had no intention to race so ended up being rescued in Manchester until she sent all the other dogs crazy and had to be rehomed again all in first 6 months of her life. Finally rescued 4 years ago and a lot calmer since! Now Instagram famous – cookie_thegreyhoundPoppy – Sara Sandbach. Poppy my Skye Terrier who was rescued from a breeder who was going to have her put down because she was allegedly fighting with another of her dogs. She too was rescued by Starfish and was fostered by the amazing Gilly Minnican who very kindly let us give her a forever home. She is very much a pampered princess who does whatever she wants and grudgingly tolerates her little brother Bear (she loves him really)Slinky – Rosie Reid. Slinky was bought at 8 weeks old due to his ‘fashionable’ breed. He was brought into a drug den and was kept in a single room. He wasn’t fed properly, he suffered a laceration to his throat and cigarette burns down every leg. He never left that room and was exposed to anger and abuse. After being found with a dead body, he was taken into rescue. He had never seen grass, never been in a car, never knew what the outside world was. He was an absolute nervous wreck and would wee himself and be sick often through stress and fear. Slowly but surely he came out his shell, he became a cheeky little chap and learnt to love life on a farm and coming to work with me in doggy day care where he met so many people who helped him overcome his fears of men and so many dogs of all shapes and sizes which he had never met before. Slinky discovered how to play and hasn’t stopped since! Slinky is such a sweet and loving boy who has now passed his Level 5 Scentwork, won the 2022 Scentwork League, achieved Champion trick titles and has done his first agility competition (making up his own course but wooing the crowds!) and has passed his Hoopers Foundation & Bronze Courses. I can’t imagine life without him and I really hope he doesn’t remember life before me 🐾Alice – Lynne Taylor. Alice greyhound, again bred to race but her siblings were bullying her so she was sent to a shelter at 5 weeks old, it turns out she has brain damage, 1 eye is higher than the other and there is a dent in her head, she has bladder issues as well and every morning i come down to a lake on the kitchen floor, she needs to be walked with some of my other dogs due to her gaining confidence by being with them, i call her my special needs dog and she is very special. i have no regrets taking her onRosie – Lynne Taylor. Rosie rescue, , bred to race and was the runt of the litter, assume she was fighting to get to the milk bar and her eye got damaged , not treated she was passed to a shelter at 7 weeks old, too weak and thin to stand an operation she was fostered until bigger, eye removed , rehomed and sent back , i offered her a home when she was able to leave Ireland at 4.5 months and she has been with me ever since now almost 7, I was the 8th bedBailey – Kim Gibbon. adopted Sept 2020 after the boisterous pup became too much as a lockdown puppy for an elderly couple. He’s settled in with Dax who are best friends and is quite a character, our lovable rogue! Molly – Claire Underhill. Molly was rescued along with her brothers and mother from a puppy farm when she was a few weeks old. We adopted her when she was 17 weeks she’s a complete bundle of fun and despite her poor start is very very loving.Otis – Charlotte Firth. I rescued Otis from Hungary, he was a street dog and in a kill shelter, I have had time for two years and he has given me and many others so much joy! He is 6 years old (ish) and was so timid and frightened when he first arrived. Stairs were his nemesis, loud noises, men and pretty much everything else in life. He has since come on in leaps and bounds and is the most loving kind and gentle dog I’ve ever known!Eddie – Jo Browne. He is a shepherd mix from Romania. When he came over July 2021 into his foster home, he was covered in absesses with his fur falling out, absolute skin and bones and so scared that if foster Mum went near him, he would scream and urinate. He now has a fair few people in his circle who can walk him without him being scared. He loves a bum scratch and his dog walker, Lauren. He has a broken pelvis so enjoys his monthly hydrotherapy. He was adopted by his foster Mum (me) and hasn’t looked back since!!Mouse – Tracy Ison. Mouse was discarded on a rubbish tip along with his siblings at only a few weeks old. When he eventually found his way to rescue he was pitifully thin. Mouse was rushed to the vets where he underwent investigations that included blood tests , X-rays and exploratory surgery to remove bits of plastic from his stomach. Mouse did not respond to the intensive treatment he was given and was returned to the rescue where it was advised he would just fade away. Three times over the next week Mouse was booked in for euthanasia and each time , something in his eyes said he wasn’t ready to go. I was there the day that Mouse took his first laps of water and offered to foster him . He required a lot of nursing , regular feeding and physio to build up his non existent muscles. Mouse never left! Sadly Mouse’s two sisters Demi and Twiggy did not survive and so Mouse lives his best life not only for himself but for his sisters too.Scout – Tracy Ison. Scout’s story – born blind and abandoned on the streets as a puppy, Scout escaped almost certain death in a stray pound before being saved by the combined efforts of three rescue organisations who got him to safety. We had two choices when we adopted Scout, we either wrapped him up in cotton wool or we let him live a full life. We chose the latter and never looked back. Scout flew through his puppy training classes and achieved his Bronze Good Citizens award. Scout has climbed mountains, has paddled in the sea and has run freely with his pals. Fundraiser and much loved Therapy dog, Scout is also an ambassador for mental health, being the official mascot of a local carers cafe. To me, Scout is my rock who helps me daily to fight debilitating anxiety caused by the tragic death of my first dog, Ruby who died in my arms following an incident with another dog whilst on a walk. I am Scout’s eyes, I promised him I would always keep him safe so my anxiety is put away when we walk togetherFlora – James & Emma. Flora is a rescue dog from Romania. She has gone from rags to riches as she survived on the streets before being kept in a high-kill shelter, and now has her choice of beds and sofas at home! Likes: rolling around after a fun walk, food (does not discriminate), bossing our other dog around, going to GCM for a biscuit. Dislikes: fireworks, going out in the rain, the postman
